« The first impression you get when arriving in Beijing is the music coming out of all the little shops along the road. Add that to the continual stream of bicycles, cars and, of course, taxis which drive around the town without a thought for other road users. As for the people around us, they are nearly all well-dressed. Chinese women are incredibly elegant.
Following the passive observations and analysis of these last three days, the only real description possible is: Paradox
We are staying in a very comfortable hotel, but just two roads further away there are tiny narrow streets called hutongs and houses like rabbit hutches.
For us the arrogant modernity and insistent tourism seemed like an affront to this population who seems so respectful to their elders and profoundly religious.
Yet, their perspective of what is going on around them seems to be expressed by fusion and not by duality as it is in our society. »
